While discussing the band’s new documentary, “Unshatter,” Emily admitted she questioned whether she was good enough to take on the role, especially knowing how much fans loved Chester.
She says she eventually realized she wasn’t there to replace him and instead focused on bringing the same emotional impact to the band’s music.
During Metallica’s residency at the Las Vegas Sphere in October 2026, Hetfield addressed the audience by saying, “Metallica is not here, like some other entertainers, to influence you with their bullshit” Metallica’s agenda is love, energy and heavy music, baby!”
That is in response to other artists taking political stands on stage.
While the band has avoided live political preaching, they frequently have tackled heavy, socially conscious themes including tracks like ‘Disposable Heroes’ and ‘One’ as well as their 1988 album ‘And Justice For All’ which features tracks about legal system corruption, censorship, and political blacklisting.
