Illinois House Speaker Chris Welch has released a statement in response to the report that 26 House Democrats have signed a letter claiming they will not vote for House Speaker Chris Welch for another term leading the chamber.
In the statement Welch mentions all of the legislation they were able to pass under his leadership including legislation on transit, cannabis and energy, and securing greater investments in education.
Welch closed the statement by saying “I am proud of this work, but I serve at the pleasure of the caucus, and I want our caucus to lead in unity and take on the mandate we received from voters this past election confidently. With that, I look forward to joining the caucus as we usher in our next leader and take our party further into the future.”
