Enrollment at public universities in Illinois reached its highest level in 11 years this fall according to the Illinois Board of Higher Education.
More than 190,000 students enrolled in fall semester classes at those universities, slightly more than last year with total undergraduate enrollment rising by more than 2,400 students.
The IBHE report said the higher enrollment was driven by meaningful increases in African American and Latino students.
Governor JB Pritzker’s office credited the higher enrollment to increased state funding for public universities and student grants including the Monetary Award Program.
