People always argue about whether America is the #1 place in the world when it comes to things like healthcare, education, and affordability. But there are some things that we EXCEL at. Like hot dog eating contests.
Buzzfeed has a list of things that the U.S. does better than other countries . . . from foreigners traveling here, or expats living abroad. Here are the best ones:
1. “The U.S. has amazing national parks, state parks, and local parks.”
2. “As an American living in Europe, what we do better is breakfast.”
3. “Soul music. Rhythm and blues music. Funk music. Gospel music.”
4. “The public library system.”
5. “The U.S. does assimilation really well . . . you become part of some group fairly quickly, and there are many to pick from. In other places, it’s hard to break out of the label of being an outsider.”
6. “Theme parks. In my country, we have ONE theme park with ONE rollercoaster . . . and it’s lame.”
7. “Entrepreneurship. The U.S. has lots of people and companies that provide the capital to enable fresh ideas from science, tech, and other fields.”
8. “Charity. Americans as a whole donate more to charities than any other nation, both in absolute terms and per capita.”
9. “Agriculture. The U.S. is a behemoth when it comes to agriculture and agriscience.”
10. “College choice: You can pick your own school, change schools halfway through, and change majors fairly easily. This isn’t the case in other countries.”
11. “All kinds of entertainment: Concerts, movie theaters, bars and nightclubs, bowling alleys, laser tag, and even food videos.”
12. “Chatting. As a traveler, in British pubs, none of the locals would speak more than a few words to me. Visiting America? They’ll talk for half an hour to someone who dialed the wrong number.”
13. “Sandwiches. There are a ton of just phenomenal American sandwiches.” Also: “Barbecue. I’m Canadian, and we’ll barbecue year-round, but they call that ‘grilling.’ I’m talking American barbecue. Hit me up with that brisket you’ve been smoking all week, Uncle Sam. Hell yes.”
14. “Air-conditioning.”
15. “Landing people on the moon. USA: 12. Rest of the World: Zero.”
